Payroll Card FAQ

Q. What is a Visa® Payroll Card?

A. A Visa Payroll Card is a prepaid cash card. Your employer deposits your wages onto this card each payday instead of issuing you a paper check. You can use your Payroll Card to withdraw cash at any ATM and make purchases wherever Visa and Pulse/Plus cards are accepted. It also saves you the expense and hassle of check cashing.

Q. How does the Payroll Card work?

A. Upon enrollment, you will receive an embossed, reloadable Visa Payroll Card in the mail. Each payday, your wages are automatically deposited onto your card by your employer. You must activate your card to begin use. After activating it, you can use it to obtain cash and pay for purchases. Your transactions are posted against your card balance. Transactions are available for your review online or by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q. How do I activate my Payroll Card?

A. Your Payroll Card can be activated online or by phone. Please have your Payroll Card and PIN mailer available.

To activate online, visit www.ffin.com/payrollcard and select Activate.

To activate by phone, call 1-800-615-5151. Once you have activated your Payroll Card, you will be prompted to create a four-digit Personal Access Code (PAC). You will use this PAC to access your account information over the phone.

Q. How do I access my card information online?

A. After completing the online registration process, you can go online to access your card balance, transaction history, place secondary card orders, update personal information, and much more. Visit www.ffin.com/payrollcard and select Login.

Q. How do I access my card information by telephone?

A. To access your card information by phone, call 1-800-615-5151 and select the appropriate option. You can access your card balance, recent transaction history, and many other card features.

Q. Is there a fee to access my card information online or by phone?

A. No. You may access your card information online at www.ffin.com/payrollcard or by calling 1-800-615-5151.

Q. What is my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

A. A Personal Identification Number (PIN) mailer was mailed to the address you provided your employer. It is a four digit number that allows you to access the funds on your card. The PIN was randomly generated, and the bank does not have record of your PIN. You are prompted to enter your PIN when you make purchases with certain merchants and when you withdraw funds at ATM.

Q. How can I change my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?

A. You may change your PIN at any time online at www.ffin.com/payrollcard or by calling 1-800-615-5151.

Q. How can I check the remaining balance on my Payroll Card?

A. You can check your remaining balance, view transaction history, and manage your Payroll Card account online at www.ffin.com/payrollcard or by calling 1-800-615-5151. There is no charge for checking your balance online or by phone.

Q. How do I make a purchase with my Payroll Card?

A. To make a purchase with your Payroll Card, swipe your card through a merchant card terminal or give your card to the cashier. Then, sign the receipt just as you would with a credit card. If the merchant accepts debit transactions, you can make a purchase by swiping your card and entering your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Some merchants allow you to get cash back on PIN-based transactions.

Q. Can I make a purchase for more than the dollar amount on my Payroll Card?

A. It depends on the merchant. You may request a “split transaction” from a merchant to pay for any remaining balance exceeding the available balance on your Card; however, some merchants may not honor such a request. For example: Your purchase is $60; you ask the merchant to use $50 on the Card, and you want to pay the other $10 with cash or a check; the merchant may or may not honor this request.

Q. Can I use my Payroll Card at an ATM to withdraw money?

A. Yes. Swipe your card and enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) at the ATM. You may withdraw any cash amount less than your total card balance. When you are asked to select an account type to withdraw from, you may select any of the available options and your transaction will be completed.

Q. Is there a fee to use my Payroll Card at an ATM?

A. You may make five (5) free withdrawals from available funds on your Payroll Card each month at any First Financial Bank ATM. After the fifth withdrawal, there is a $1.50 fee for each withdrawal made in same month. You may be charged a fee by the ATM/Network operator(s) used to complete a cash withdrawal or balance inquiry at ATMs owned by other financial institutions.

Q. Can I use my Payroll Card to make purchases over the Internet?

A. Yes, use your Payroll Card like a credit card to make purchases online.

Q. How long is my Payroll Card valid?

A. The expiration date for your Payroll Card is located on the front of your card. You may continue to use your card until the expiration date or until no funds remain on the card. A new card will be sent to you before your first card expires.

Q. What happens when I spend all the funds on my Payroll Card?

Q. Why was my Payroll Card declined by a restaurant when I had enough money to pay the food bill?

A. Restaurants may authorize your card for more than the transaction amount in order to cover any anticipated gratuities. If such authorization is greater than the balance available on your card, it is possible your card may be declined.

Q. Why are there times I have trouble using my Payroll Card to purchase fuel?

A. The card may be used to purchase fuel; however, it must be presented to the attendant prior to making the purchase. Transactions made selecting the “Credit Card” or “Debit Card” option at the “pay at the pump” card terminal will not be authorized.
